The body consist of the head , the trunk and the four limbs.
The front part of the head from the forehead to the chin is the face. It’s upper part consists of the forehead and the temples.
The two sides of the lower face are called cheeks. The jaws from the framework of the mouth..
The eyes are situated on either side of the nose.
They are partly covered by the eyelids with the eyelashes for protection. The head is joined to the trunk by the neck.
The trunk is the biggest part of the body.
It contains two large cavities separated by the diaphragm.
The chest, or thorax, is the upper of these cavities the abdomen, the lower.
The upper limbs are attached to either side of the trunk and the lower limbs extend downwards from it.
The upper limbs present three segments : the arm , the forearm, and the hand. Each hand has four fingers and one thumb.
The bones of the upper limb are joined by the two articulations: the elbow and the wrist, and they are connected to the trunk by the shoulder girdle.
The lower limbs, like the upper, are connected to the trunk by a girdle. And also present three segments : the thigh, the leg and the foot.
The joints of the lower limb are : the knee and the ankle.
Various surface regions of the body have specific anatomical names.
For example, the armpit is called the axilla ; the hollows between the trunk and legs , the groins ; the hollows behind the knees , the popliteal spaces and the umbilicus is the name given to the nevel.
